In 2010 I was finishing a Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling, when I discovered the magic that is knitting. Over the next year and a half I knit obsessively while beginning a career as a therapist. I founded Apple Tree Knits in 2011, brimming with passion for knitting and color and eager to translate my shawl ideas into knitting patterns. Soon after, the dyeing side of the business came into being when I couldn't find quite the right yarn for a design I had in mind; and the dyeing has been in the forefront ever since. Thanks to the tremendous kindness and support of the fiber arts community my little side project has grown into a successful business that supports my family, and I have been a full-time dyer since 2013.
Since then ATK has expanded into yarn shops worldwide (while remaining in my dedicated basement dye studio), and my family has expanded with the additions of 2 wonderful daughters; thanks to ATK, I am able to be a stay-at-home mom to my girls while also sharing the love of all things yarn with them, and with the world. I am grateful every day for the incredible generosity and talent of knitters, crocheters, yarn shop owners, and designers; it is you all who make this possible.
So if you have found room for a little bit of ATK yarn in your home, know that it comes from a home full of love, dyed by my hands with love, and it is my deep wish that you will feel that love when you use it.
